Investigative journalism fellowships available in the Balkans

Experienced journalists from across the Balkans are invited to compete for a fellowship.

The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) is accepting applications to its annual Fellowship for Journalistic Excellence program. The contest is sponsored by the ERSTE Foundation and the Open Society Foundation. This year’s theme is “Generations.”

Ten journalists will be selected to participate in the seven-month program, during which they will conduct research both in the region and in the European Union, culminating in publication and Europe-wide promotion of their reports at the end of the year.

Successful applicants will receive a EUR2,000 bursary, up to another EUR2,000 for travel expenses and will attend career development seminars in Vienna and the region. In addition, the top three articles will be awarded EUR4,000, EUR3,000 and EUR1,000.

The deadline is March 5.
